PROJECT: RISE UP
BRINGING ARTS TO THE COMMUNITY
We were very pleased to work with Bird Creatives for the 2022 Chinook Blast. Chinook Blast is a very complicated project as it is a new event, is incredibly dependent on partnerships and collaboration and has been greatly impacted by COVID in its first two years. Bird Creatives was the ideal partner for Chinook Blast as it has broad expertise in event management, project management, sponsorships, PR, marketing and partnerships. As Chinook Blast shifted and adjusted frequently during its planning, we were very impressed with Bird Creative’s ability to be nimble, solutions-oriented, partner-focused and positive.

We have had a long and beneficial relationship with Bird Creatives. Among the many projects that Kaley and her team have managed for us I am most proud of RISE UP YYC and the development of a creative economy strategy for Calgary. RISE UP YYC was launched during the pandemic to keep the arts alive and present when there were restrictions on live gatherings. It resulted in safe live events throughout the city, providing experiences for the public and paid work for artists and arts workers who were most severely impacted during COVID-19. The creative economy strategy, CreativeCITY, was a collaborative project co-led by Calgary Arts Development and Calgary Economic Development and a steering committee of members from creative communities across sectors. The strategy was launched in 2021 and included a series of small pilots to support the strategic priorities.
In both instances, Bird Creatives was our lead project manager and coordinator from community engagement to logistics to programming to writing. Working with them was seamless. They captured what they heard from the community and observed appropriate EDIA practices and procedures to ensure the process was inclusive and representative of what it means to be Canada's third most diverse city.

CALGARY ARTS DEVELOPMENT
We worked with Bird Creatives for the first time in 2022. We hired them to project manage our 5th annual Winter Whyte Light Up event in November. Even though we brought them on board a little later than we had planned, they didn't hesitate to get the ball rolling on our project planning. They were incredibly helpful with fundraising and raised nearly $10,000 for our event in just 2 weeks! I really appreciated their expertise in outdoor winter events, their industry connections and overall fantastic attitude and work ethic.
